Keyboard control
Record a shortcut with the desktop hotkey editor.
Understand the listening state, cancellation behavior, accepted input, and save feedback used by the shortcut editor.

Enter the listening state
Click a mode shortcut field to start recording. The field changes to a listening message that tells you to press the keys and offers Escape as the cancellation key.
While the editor is listening, LowLighter pauses its active global shortcuts. This keeps the combination you are recording from starting a request or changing another desktop action.
Cancel without changing the shortcut
- 1
Start recording
Select the shortcut field for the mode you want to edit.
- 2
Press Escape
The editor exits the listening state and restores the shortcut that was shown before recording began.
- 3
Continue when ready
Select the field again when you want to try a different combination.
Save the captured combination
When LowLighter accepts the combination, the keycap display updates, a confirmation message names the new shortcut, and the shortcut is saved to the desktop settings. The global shortcuts resume after the save path completes.
If the settings save fails, the editor restores the previous shortcut and shows an error message so the failed change does not look successful.
A modifier by itself is not a shortcut. Press the final key in the same combination so the editor can record a complete accelerator.
