Use one complete example to learn the relationship between a mode, a shortcut, a selection, and an answer.

On this page

Start with Answer

Open Home and choose the Answer card. The card shows the shortcut currently assigned to Answer. If you want a different key combination, select the shortcut display and record a new one before you continue.

Answer is the simplest way to test the full screen workflow because it sends a direct question about the selected material.

Trigger selection and drag over the content

  1. 1

    Press the Answer shortcut

LowLighter checks screen access, then opens the selection surface.

  2. 2

    Drag across the content

Select the paragraph, image, chart, diagram, or code that should provide context.

  3. 3

    Confirm the region

Release the pointer to finish the selection. Press Escape if you want to cancel and start over.

  4. 4

    Wait for the answer surface

LowLighter processes the captured region and presents the response in its answer surface.

Use the same flow for other modes

The selection step stays the same when you switch to Summarize, Translate, Rewrite, Explain, or Custom Prompt. The mode changes the kind of response LowLighter produces from that selection.

If nothing happens: check the assigned hotkey, the permission state, and whether the mode is available for the signed-in account. The Troubleshooting page follows those checks in order.
