LowLighter Meetings: Live Transcription and Assist

Meetings keeps a live transcript beside your work and gives you an Assist button when you need help during the conversation.

Published September 13, 2026

Follow the conversation without leaving your work

Meetings adds a live transcript and an assistance workspace to your desktop. It can listen to the microphone and system audio after you grant permission and start a session.

The overlay remains available over the app you are using. You can open the transcript, ask Assist a question, or check a previous answer without moving the meeting into another window.

Access and session limits depend on your plan. Free and Basic include limited Meetings access, while Pro includes maximum Meeting Assistant usage.

Start a live session when you need one

Choose your transcription language before starting. Meetings then builds the transcript while the conversation continues.

  1. 1

    Start Audio Session

Meetings begins listening to the microphone and system audio that your operating system allows.

  2. 2

    Open the transcript when useful

The live text remains available from the Meetings overlay. Starting a session does not force the transcript open.

  3. 3

    Pause, resume, or finish

Pause when the conversation stops. Choose Done when you want Meetings to finish and save the session.

Ask Assist during the conversation

During a live session, Assist can use the newest part of the transcript and your selected meeting mode. If screen context is enabled, it can also use what is visible on your screen.

That makes it useful for a follow-up question, a short explanation, or a response based on the material being discussed. The answer appears in the Meetings conversation so you can refer back to it.

Outside a live session, Meetings can still answer an ordinary screen question. It does not treat an old transcript as a live conversation.

Match Assist to the meeting

Choose a mode before the session so Assist knows what kind of help fits the conversation.

General

Everyday meetings and questions without a special format.

Interview

Conversation support for a general interview.

System Design

Help that follows a system design discussion.

Coding Interview

Support for technical questions and coding conversations.

Behavioral Interview

Help with experience and scenario questions.

Custom

Your own guidance for a different type of meeting.

Each mode can keep up to two reference files. Meetings accepts PDF, DOCX, TXT, and MD files as supporting material.

An overlay that stays with the meeting

The visible Meetings surface uses native controls on Windows and macOS. You can type into it and use its controls without pulling focus away from the app underneath.

Closing the main LowLighter dashboard does not close an active Meetings surface. The transcript and chat remain available from the overlay while LowLighter continues running.

Use the tray on Windows or the menu bar on macOS to reopen and manage LowLighter. Quitting LowLighter ends the active Meetings session.

Choose what Assist can see

Screen context

Turn screen context on when the visible app should help ground an Assist answer. Leave it off when the transcript and meeting mode provide enough context.

Microphone and system audio

Meetings uses these sources only after you grant the required operating system permissions and start an audio session.

Phantom and Meeting Invisibility

Keep the Meetings overlay invisible to screenshots, recordings, and screen shares while it remains fully visible and interactive for you.

Return to the meeting afterward

Completed sessions appear in Meetings history. Open one to review its summary and transcript, or resume the saved session when you need its earlier context again.

The transcript has its own copy action. Assist messages can also be copied one at a time, so you can take the part you need without exporting the whole conversation.

Delete a saved session from history when you no longer need it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Meetings start listening when I open it?

No. Listening begins when you choose Start Audio Session and the required permissions are available.

Can I use Assist without a live transcript?

Yes. Outside a live session, Assist can answer an ordinary screen question. Live transcript context is available only while a session is active or when you return to a saved session.

Will closing the dashboard end my meeting?

Closing the main dashboard does not close the Meetings overlay. Keep LowLighter running and continue from the overlay, tray, or menu bar.

Can Meetings stay invisible during a call?

Yes. Turn on Phantom or Meeting Invisibility to keep the overlay invisible during screenshots, recordings, and screen shares while it remains visible to you.
